Hundreds of children and pregnant moms in Reading learn about good oral hygiene

When we award a grant to an organization, we require that organization to provide a written report back to us to help us ensure the funds were used as intended.

We recently received a report from the Berks Community Health Center on a “Brush Up on Oral Health!” Impact Grant they received from the DentaQuest Fund of Berks County Community Foundation.

The program entailed having a health center outreach worker visit various day cares and pregnant mother groups throughout Reading to educate them about good oral hygiene. The interactive, fun presentation to children featured Ozzy Z Mutt puppet.

The program reached 621 children and 191 pregnant moms. The above pictures were taken at the Northeast branch of Reading Public Library.

Each child was provided with a coloring book and a dental hygiene kit which contained a suction cup brush, character toothbrush cover, toothpaste, 2-minute timer, waxed floss, a laminated brushing chart with a dry erase marker, pamphlets to take home to their parents on the health center and information from our Brush Up Berks program. The moms were also given goodie bags.
